不过，针对不同食材，采用的烹饪技法也是完全不同的，煎炒烹炸煮烘焙，你们知道都应该如何表达吗？

When talking generally about preparing meals, use the verb to

cook

.

泛指烹调食物，就可以用动词cook。

e.g.: You"d better learn how to cook if you want to live independently.

如果你想独立生活，最好学会做饭。

You can

fry

meat, fish, eggs, etc. in a shallow pan of hot oil.

可以用fry来表达在平底锅里用油煎或炒肉、鱼、蛋等等。

e.g.: Firstly, fry the onion and garlic for one minute.

首先，将洋葱和大蒜炒制一分钟。

You can

boil

vegetables, eggs, etc. by covering them with water and heating to the

boiling point

(=100℃).

可以用水煮(boil)蔬菜、鸡蛋等等，加热至沸点。

e.g.: She"s boiling the water for the pasta now.

她正在烧水，准备煮意面。

You can

steam

fish, vegetables, etc. by placing the food above boiling water in a container with holes so that the steam reaches it and covering it.

可以蒸(steam)鱼、蔬菜等等，把食物放在有孔的容器里置于沸水之上，这样蒸汽就可以通过小孔抵达并覆盖食物。

e.g.:

Chinese rice is usually prepared by steaming.

米饭通常是蒸熟的。

You can

bake

bread, cakes, potatoes, etc. in the dry heat of an oven or a fire.

可以在烤箱或者火炉上烤(bake)面包、蛋糕、土豆等。

e.g.: My husband baked a cake for my birthday.

我先生为我的生日烤了一个蛋糕。
