Hello there students. This is teacher Nelli.

嗨喽大家好，我是Nelli老师。

And, we will listen to another conversation about safety. Here it is!

咱们一起听一段关于安全的对话。走起！

【对话】

A: The house burned down.

A: 房子烧塌了。

B: What happened?

B: 咋回事儿？

A: The man fell asleep.

A: 那人睡着了。

B: Was he smoking?

B: 他抽烟了？

A: Yes, he was smoking a cigarette.

A: 嗯，他抽烟来着。

B: Did he die?

B: 死了吗？

A: Yes, he did. His cat died, too!

A: 死了，他的猫也死了！

B: That"s too bad. What about his smoke alarm?

B: 哎。警报器没响吗？

A: The battery was dead.

A: 电池没电了。

B: A good battery would have saved his life.

B: 一节电池就能把他命救了。

A: He had cigarettes, but no battery!

A: 有烟没电池。

B: It happens all the time.

B: 常事儿。

【讲解】

1、burn down（phrasal verb）

burn down 动词短语

If a building burns down or is burned down, it is destroyed by fire

如果一个房子被burn down的话，意味着被火烧毁了。

2、fall asleep

a) to begin to sleep

a) 开始入睡

b.) literary used to mean that someone dies, when you want to avoid saying this directly

b) 在不想之言的时候会被用来形容某人死了

3、Battery

an object that provides a supply of electricity for something such as a radio, car, or toy

一个能为收音机，玩具车等提供电能的小物件（电池）
