Duanwu Festival is a traditional Chinese festival held on the fifth day ofthe fifth month of the Chinese calendar. It is also known as the DoubleFifth.[citation needed] It has since been celebrated, in various ways, in otherparts of East Asia as well. In the West, it's commonly known as Dragon BoatFestival.
The exact origins of Duan Wu are unclear, but one traditional view holdsthat the festival memorializes the Chinese poet Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC-278 BC) ofthe Warring States Period. He committed suicide by drowning himself in a riverbecause he was disgusted by the corruption of the Chu government. The localpeople, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river tofeed the fish so they would not eat Qu's body. They also sat on long, narrowpaddle boats called dragon boats, and tried to scare the fish away by thethundering sound of drums aboard the boat and the fierce looking carved dragonhead on the boat's prow 。
In the early years of the Chinese Republic, Duan Wu was also celebrated as"Poets' Day," due to Qu Yuan's status as China's first poet of personalrenown.
Today, people eat bamboo-wrapped steamed glutinous rice dumplings calledzongzi (the food originally intended to feed the fish) and race dragon boats inmemory of Qu's dramatic death.

端午节来源于屈原的故事：爱国的诗人屈原出了一个能够富国强民的好主意，但是没有被国王采纳，反而被逐出宫中 。他气的不得了，跳下了汩罗江 。当地的渔夫划着小船去把竹筒里的米撒下汩罗江给屈原 。后来，大家把盛着竹筒的米改为粽子，把划小船改为赛龙船来纪念屈原 。大家为了纪念爱国诗人屈原，才每年都过端午节 。我们全家都非常敬佩屈原，因此，我们家每年都过端午节 。
端午节的传统习俗就是吃粽子 。因此，我们家有一个名副其实的包粽子好手——我妈妈 。所以每年过端午节的时候，我们全家都能吃到许多粽子 。我妈妈常说：用芦苇的叶子包粽子最香 。所以，她用芦苇的叶子来包粽子 。她在包粽子之前，先做好准备工作：把芦苇的叶子放在水里煮一煮，把准备好的糯米和枣分别洗一洗，准备工作就做好了 。等芦苇的叶子凉了以后，她就开始包粽子了 。她先取三片叶子，把两片叶子正着放，一片反着放，夹在中间，把这三片叶子卷成一个圆雉体的模样，然后在里面放上糯米，中间夹几个枣，最后把叶子用线捆好，一个粽子就包好了 。她包得又肥又大，活像一个老佛爷在睡觉 。等她把粽子包完后，把它们放在高压锅里蒸四十分钟，再放三四个小时，使其入味后，就可以吃了!虽然我妈妈包的粽子的原料极其简单，但是包出来的粽子却是香喷喷的 。香得使你只要一闻到味，就会挑起你的食欲;只要你的餐桌前一有粽子，你就会大口大口地吃起来 。所以，我每当吃粽子时，总是吃得很多，可能是因为粽子太合我口味了吧!说到合我的口味，我也不知道我妈妈包粽子有什么“秘决”，每次包的粽子总是香喷喷的，吊人的胃口，使人馋诞欲滴，不得不吃得很多 。
过端午节除了要吃粽子，当然也少不了赛龙舟哟!
我最喜欢看得就是赛龙舟的情形，几十个水手都手拿着桨，用尽全身的用手奋力地划着，擂鼓的水手势气高昂，用力地敲着有规律的鼓点儿 。“加油，加油!”，场边的拉拉队激情洋溢，发出雷鸣般地加油声、呐喊声、助威声，使水手们不得不更加使劲划船 。整个赛龙舟的场面多么壮观、激烈，可以说是独一无二，是端午节传统的象征 。
吃粽子、赛龙舟，这两样传统习俗，共同编织了一个热热闹闹的端午节 。

The traditional custom of the Dragon Boat Festival is eating zongzi.Therefore, our family has a really good zongzi -- my mother. So every year,during the Dragon Boat Festival, our whole family can eat many zongzi. My motherused to say that the leaves of the reed are the most fragrant. So she wrappedthe rice dumplings with the leaves of the reeds. Before her in the packagedumplings, ready to work: the boil, reed leaves in the water the preparedglutinous rice and jujube wash separately, the preparation work is done. Whenthe reed leaves were cold, she began to make zongzi. Her first three leaves, putthe two leaf dish, put a slice of their, caught in the middle of the three leafroll into a round pheasant body appearance, glutinous rice, put on the inside,between a few dates, finally the leaves tied up with lines, a rice dumplingswrapped. She was so rich and fat that she was like an old Buddha sleeping. Aftershe has wrapped the dumplings, steam them in a pressure cooker for 40 minutes,then put them on for another three or four hours, and then you can eat them!Although the ingredients of my mother's dumplings are extremely simple, thedumplings are fragrant. If you smell the smell, you will stir up your appetite.As long as you have zongzi in front of your table, you will eat them. Therefore,whenever I eat zongzi, I always eat a lot of food, probably because thedumplings are too much my taste! When it comes to my taste, I don't know what mymother zongzi "secret", each package dumplings is always delicious, appetite,make the person admire Christmas is about to drip, had to eat a lot.
