在苏塞克斯（Sussex）连绵起伏的美丽山峦之间，住着许多牧羊人，照料着许多群绵羊。其中有一群绵羊，属于一位贫苦的女人。她有一个小女儿，名叫小波（Bo-Peep）。母女两人靠牧羊为生。可是有一天，小波不小心把绵羊看丢了...

Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep,

And doesn"t know where to find them.

Leave them alone, and they"ll come home,

Bringing their tails behind them.

小波弄丢了绵羊，

不知该去哪找。

但是不用担心，

它们会摇着身后的尾巴，

回家来。

Then up she took her little crook,

Determined for to find them;

小波站起身来，

拿起小小牧杖，

决心找到绵羊。

She found them indeed,

but it made her heart bleed,

For they"d left all their tails behind them.

没错，她找到绵羊们了，

可是她好心痛，

因为它们的尾巴，

全部都不见了！

It happened one day, as Bo-Peep did stray

Into a meadow close by;

There she spied their tails side by side,

All hung on a tree to dry.

小波四处寻找，

某天来到牧场，

看见绵羊尾巴，

一条接着一条，

挂在树上晾干！

She heaved a sigh, and wiped her eye

And over hillocks went rambling,

And tried what she could

As a shepherdess should,

To tack each tail on to it"s lambkin.

小波深深吸气，

擦干眼中泪水，

翻越山峰溪谷，

身为小牧羊女，

竭尽她的全力，

为每一只绵羊，

缝上尾巴。
