Paraphrase

【Discourse】

Repair is sometimes called a repair strategy or self-correction strategy. It corrects what you just said.

“I saw her in the supermarket last Saturday, no, wait a minute, it was Sunday.”

Repairing, traditionally seen as a “bad English”, is now considered to be an important conversation strategy and is often presented in coursebooks in the context of “natural dialogues”.

Response

【Discourse】

Response is another word for “answer”.

In most teaching books, they don’t say, “The student gives the answer”, instead, they say, “The student gives a response”.

An answer implies “giving information”, but a response covers any kind of answer, reaction or reply.
