Help yourself to check out

Four self-checkout machines have been installed at Carrefour Zhongshan Park outlet which frees customers who previously had to wait for a few minutes or even longer until they could reach the cashiers’ counter.

All a customer needs to do is just to follow the instructions on the screen. Press the button before he or she finishes the payment and takes away the items.

Step 1

If you are a Carrefour member, press the “member” button, if not, choose “start.” 

Step 2

If you need a plastic bag, press the “shopping bag” button.

Step 3

Place your purchases in the designated area to the left of the screen. Scan the barcodes on your purchases. Move the items scanned to the bagging place. Keep the items there until you pay for them.

 

Step 4

Press “finish shopping and pay” and choose the way of payment. Three of the machines do not accept cash but only Alipay, WeChat payment, bank card, shopping card and Carrefour Pay.

 

Step 5

Complete the payment and the machine will issue a receipt, be sure to take it and purchases.

Security guards at the exit check customers’ receipts regularly.

From magnolia with love

In March every year, the magnolia trees are in full bloom, presenting a colorful scene of great charm. As the city flower of Shanghai, magnolia blossoms extraordinarily early.

When winter waned and spring comes, the magnolia has already in full bloom before Qingming Festival. At Huashan Green Space white magnolia interlaced with the red which reproduced the scene in a poem by Du Fu (712-770 AD) “Several houses hided in bamboo forest along a deep river when red flowers interlaced with white.”  

Du Fu was a prominent Chinese poet of the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD).

Magnolia trees are also available at Caojiayan Green Space and Tianshan Park in Changning.

The big flowers spotlessly white and blooming upwards, symbolize a kind of the spirit rising in great vigor and embedded in the mind of the people of Shanghai.

o smooth along Hongqiao Road

Changning police and the district construction and transportation commission have upgraded facilities along Hongqiao Road to ease traffic jams.

Hongqiao Road is an east-west thoroughfare linking the Inner and Middle Ring Roads as well as Yan’an Road W. and previously troubled by traffic jams during rush hour almost every day.

At the section between Hongmei Road and Gubei Road, hard shoulders were demolished while bicycle lanes were narrowed to make way for a new driving lane to improve traffic efficiency.

A right-turn lane was added at the west side of the intersection of Hongqiao Road and Hongxu Road while a left-turn lane was added at the east side to ease traffic flow.

Two left-turn lanes were added on both sides at the intersection of Hongqiao Road and Shuicheng Road for the convenience of passing vehicles.

Hard shoulders were demolished at the north side of the intersection of Hongqiao Road and Jinzhu Road. Two lanes were added to improve the passing at the intersection. After that, few cars were jammed at the section between Jinzhu Road and Gubei Road.

After the upgrade, passing efficiency at intersections along Hongqiao Road increased 30 to 50 percent while the amount of traffic related complaints dropped 10 percent every month.

Garbage sorting all-round

All the enterprises at Linkong Economic Demonstration Zone have started the sorting of garbage.

The demonstration zone management has installed facilities with clear signs to help companies and office workers in the zone to dispose the waste correctly.

An office worker pledges to abide by garbage sorting by signing his name on a board.

 

The office for the promotion of the garbage sorting has sent its staff to teach office workers the right way to segregate waste. 

Linkong property management distributed garbage sorting guides and leaflets among the companies at the zone. Property managers patrol and check the recycle bins at noon break every day.
