Changning is hosting many activities from the Lunar New Year to the Lantern Festival. Writing couplets, New Year galas, solving lantern riddles and exhibitions, almost all of them are free! The 9th Shanghai Children’s Painting Exhibition with the Theme of Chinese Horoscopes
Date: Feb 3 to Mar 2
Address: Hongqiao Contemporary Art Museum (650 Xianxia Road)
Admission: Free
The exhibition is at the Hongqiao Contemporary Art Museum every year and becomes more and more popular and famous. The exhibition this year is jointly hosted by the art museum, Changning Children’s Library and a number of Shanghai art schools.
It marks the inheritance of traditional culture by young generations as well as a useful way to innovate children"s artistic creation.
It opens up and stimulates children"s imagination and artistic creativity through the integration of painting and the culture of Chinese Horoscopes, deepens the influence of Chinese traditional culture in the minds of children, promotes the cultural exchange between Chinese and foreign youngsters and brings children in the city a happy and meaningful Spring Festival.

Hua Xingfu Paper Tearing Exhibtion
Date: Feb 2 to March 2
Address: 1st Floor, Hongqiao Art Center
Admission: Free
Hua Xingfu is a master of the traditional art of paper tearing, an intangible culture heritage. Hua has dedicated decades of his life to paper tearing and run many classes in many Changning schools to promote the traditional art form.
Hua deals most with the theme of Chinese horoscopes. Every year he creates about 100 pieces depicting the animal of the year and the exhibition this year is all about dogs.
Hua"s focus is expanding people"s awareness of paper tearing, so that they can experience its joy and simplicity for themselves.
