clothes后用is还是are _主语

在东湖路院校三（下）某班2017年4月初的一次英语课外作业（Unit 3 训练2）中，有那样一道“连词成句”题：“is, dress, My, favourite, clothes” 。教师所给的回答是：
My favourite clothes is dress.

我觉得这一回答是不正确的，由于 clothes 是复数名词，作主语时，谓语动词应当用复数。比如：Fine clothes make the man. （谚）佛要金装。（节选自《外研社英汉多功能词典》2008年7月第一版）因此，恰当的回答应该是：My favourite dress is clothes.
愿意黎见解，只有以复数形式存有，作主语，宾语用复数
Dress is my favourite clothes.
These clothes are new.
这种衣服是新的。
My clothes are cheap.
我的衣服很便宜
Fine clothes make the man.
马靠鞍装,人靠衣服。
Many of the clothes come from the world's top fashion houses.
这种服饰中有很多源于世界顶级服装设计企业。
His work clothes, having become saturated with oil, had to be cleaned.
